Marty Thaler lecture and workshop at HIT in China

Senior Lecturer, Marty Thaler, returned to teach a 3 week workshop from June 15 - July 4th at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in Harbin, China, a university established in 1920 and known for conducting leading research in the fields of aerospace, robotics, and computer science.

HITEleven student teams, sophomore and junior undergraduate industrial design students developed "modern social objects" meant to encourage interaction between generations. Projects ranged from unique board games to DIY furniture. Students researched existing user behaviors, developed a product point of view, developed and tested prototypes with parents and kids and then presented their solutions through storytelling. hit3

While there, Marty Thaler also gave a lecture within the Architecture department on "Logistics and Performance of the Operating Room".  A project completed this spring at ID in collaboration with the University of Chicago, Center for Care and Discovery.

Many thanks to Professor Yang and Professor Wang of HIT for the invitation to teach in their summer program and for their wonderful hospitality.
