Pathways: Exploring design’s future role in business

At ID, we challenge what design is and can be. We focus not just on design itself, but the impact it has on the world around us.

The Pathways project is an extension of this mission. In partnership with Google, Capital One, Ford, Phillips, VML and other forward-thinking organizations, IIT Institute of Design is embarking on a research initiative to explore and define the future function of design in business.

Specifically, this research seeks to understand the future roles of design-trained professionals, and how design can strengthen a company’s competitive advantage.

We need designers, and business leaders who work with designers, to share their critical viewpoints.

Participation in this initiative involves a one-hour phone conversation between February 7 and March 8 with a moderator from Sylver Consulting to discuss:

  • How design functions in your organization today,
  • Where you (as a business/design leader) might desire the impact of design to grow in the future, and
  • The organizational structures that you envision enabling or hindering that growth over time.

Please take this short survey to share more about your role and the current function of design within your organization. If you qualify and are selected to participate in this interview, you will receive a $100 honorarium.

The results of this research will be used to create a widely disseminated publication that provides insight into the future function of design in business, and the organizational structures, roles, and talent needed to support that vision.

Just for taking this short survey, and regardless of whether or not you qualify for the in-depth interview, you will be among the first to receive a free digital copy of this publication when it is released later this year.

Take the 10-minute survey and see if you qualify.
