The TEK-TILES project is focused on developing Design For Manufacturing processes for embedding technology into fabrics.
The inaugural design sprint has challenged a collaborative R&D team from eight universities to investigate and create a library of thirty material swatches that demonstrate the production capacity of the BF+DA p.LAB. The team is also examining the potential for human applications and adapting production processes to accommodate the constraints of each material. Each tech-material will be assessed for its environmental and societal impacts.
Laura Forlano is researching the ways in which particular futures come together at the intersection of computing and textiles as well as the ethical and political dimensions of the project.
