Bruce Bendix is an experienced innovation leader with deep expertise in human-centered design, strategy, and organizational transformation. As an Adjunct Faculty member at IIT Institute of Design (ID), he develops and teaches popular courses, including Business Model and Value Webs. Bruce is a highly skilled facilitator with extensive experience working with teams to identify and prioritize innovation ideas and then prototype and scale them to achieve meaningful outcomes. He loves working in complex, changing environments to develop and execute innovation strategies and new business models. He has a bachelor’s of science in mechanical engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Industry Experience

Bruce’s thirty-plus years of experience allow him to bring a broad set of skills to his work. As a seasoned business leader with a passion for combining innovation, strategy, and technology, he has created new value in both large and small organizations. Bruce has served as a senior executive for large enterprises in the private and public sector, practice leader for global management consulting firms, professor of business management at graduate schools, and entrepreneur and mentor to start-ups. Most recently, he served as Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at the Illinois Department of Human Services in Chicago and Springfield (2015–19), and as Director of Growth Strategies Consulting at Baker Tilly Virchow Kraus, LLP, in Chicago (2011–14). Before that, Bruce was with Accenture in Chicago (1993–2007), where he was one of two senior executives leading the company’s worldwide Growth and Innovation Strategy practice.
