David Miniat serves as the Chairman and CEO of the Miniat Companies, Inc., a fourth-generation family held business that is more than 100 years old. Within the Miniat portfolio of companies is Ed Miniat LLC, a leader and pioneer in the cooked meat industry, and South Chicago Packing LLC, the nationís premier refiner of edible animal fats. The Companies partner with the most recognized restaurant and food brands in the country.

Driving innovation and growth is a passion for David. Along with his brother Michael, he brought the process of sous-vide cooking to Ed Miniat LLC, scaling it to meet the demands of high volume operations. With this development, they transformed the meat processing legacy of the Miniat brand, setting a new direction for the company in cooked meats and animal fats that is the foundation for the companyís significant growth over the past 30 years.

As a leader in the food industry, David shares his knowledge and experiences to improve the industry, as well as the Chicago area that is home to his familyís business. He is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the North American Meat Institute, previously serving as its Chairman of the Board. He joined the Young Presidentís Association in 1999 and continues his involvement with the organization as a member of YPO Gold. As a Board Member of the newly formed Chicagoland Food & Beverage Network, David is working to promote all aspects of the food industry, nurture Chicago as an incubator for food companies, and ensure Illinois is a secure and desirable place to operate a business.

A fourth-generation family member, David manages a team that currently includes ten active members of the fourth and fifth generations as well as a board with many additional members of the family. With family businesses typically not surviving past the third generation, David and the Miniat family are working to preserve the family business model. As a member and honoree of the Family Business Center of the Loyola University of Chicago as well as the Family Business Committee of North American Meat Institute, he is assisting with the establishment of resources and best practices developed through his lifetime of engagement in the Miniat Family of Companies.

An avid supporter of education, David has held multiple advisory and board roles at Illinois Institute of Technology, including serving as the Chair on the Board of Review for the Kent College of Law, the Board of Advisors for the Institute of Food Safety & Health, the Board of Overseers for the Institute of Design, and as a Board Trustee for the school. 

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Colorado State University, an MBA from Keller Graduate School, and continues his educational pursuits through professional development programs that focus on leadership, family business, and governance through Loyola University Chicago, Kellogg School of Management, and Harvard Business School. 

In his personal time, David continues to give back, to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center.
