How do we shape AI for humanity?

While much of the tech world races to build AI faster, ID has been gathering the industry’s most forward-thinking leaders to address the question of how we can shape AI for humanity. The conversation, started over four global salons in 2024, will culminate at the Shapeshift Summit, May 28–30, 2025, as leaders from international organizations come together to discuss action plans, devise innovative strategies, and share case studies for charting humanity’s next chapter.

Flipping the script and moving the focus of the conversation from technology to human application and the center of the dialogue from Silicon Valley to Chicago (and, in 2024, to global salons in Pune, Tokyo, Auckland, and New York City), Shapeshift galvanizes global leaders to consider this moment of rapid advancement and intentionally shape the innovations we all want, the legacy systems we can transform, and the radical possibilities we can build together.

Over the three-day program, held at ID and online, leaders from global creative, technology, and business communities will build knowledge and a community of practice dedicated to using AI responsibly.

Day One of the Summit offers an Immersion, exploring AI’s use for good through a series of site visits across Chicago. On Day Two, participants focus on the challenges and opportunities AI presents for social, urban, and civic systems. On Day Three, participants examine the impact of AI on human connections, relationships, community building, and skill development.

Throughout the Shapeshift Summit, participants will get an expansive outlook of the possibilities of AI across industries and fields, including communication, media, policy, software, tech, and transportation.
