Bauhaus Futures: Book Release
6:00-8:00pm CST
3137 South Federal Street
Chicago, IL 60616
On the occasion of the Bauhaus centenary, Bauhaus Futures (MIT Press, October 2019) asks: What would keep the Bauhaus up at night if it were practicing today? Rather than focusing on the legacy of the Bauhaus, the book considers how the Bauhaus manifests itself today and what a Bauhaus outlook might look like in another 100 or even 1000 years. Editor Laura Forlano (ID) and book contributors Jessica Charlesworth (SAIC), Tim Parsons (SAIC), and Marty Thaler (ID) participate in a panel discussion moderated by ID student J. Smyk, followed by a book signing.
They will discuss:
- Bauhaus's interdisciplinary nature
- The significance of Bauhaus as human-technology relationships continue to evolve
- Establishing and evolving design principles
- The connection between Bauhaus and human-centered design
- Bauhaus products for tomorrow
- Ethical questions about design, technology, and labor
