The Invisible Labors of Pregnancy

Prenatal care focuses primarily on diagnosis and treatment. However, coding and analysis of interviews with four women at different stages in their pregnancy revealed that the cognitive juggling and mental load they experienced often goes unnoticed by others. Seven factors emerged from the research data that contribute to mental and emotional exhaustion and lead to heightened feelings of overwhelm during pregnancy.
