Adjunct Faculty, Institute of Design
Santosh Basapur is an Adjunct Faculty lecturer and planning coordinator for human factors and systems design at IIT Institute of Design (ID). His expertise is in using methods from various domains like human-computer interaction (HCI) factors, social sciences, and anthropology and applying them to user-experience (UX) research. At ID, where Santosh first lectured in 2013, he helps guide the next generation of designers tackling complex systems of healthcare, focusing on innovative systems research and design processes. A widely published author and presenter, Santosh also has numerous US patents. He received a PhD in design from the Institute of Design and a master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering with a major in human factors from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Santosh also has a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Karnatak University.
Outside ID, Santosh is Director of Project Management at Rush University Medical Center, where among other things he nurtures a people-centered culture of innovation and leads projects through cross-disciplinary research programs and education. He originally joined Rush as an Administrative Fellow before becoming Director of Design – Business Processes in 2018.
Santosh also is Principal and Founder UX Yantra Inc., established in 2014 as a boutique user experiences consulting firm, with clients like Gogo Air, Salesforce, and Akta Inc. From 2013 to 2018, he served as Chief Experience Architect at Vizlore, a company that innovates and architects smart experiences using a proprietary IoT platform.
Prior to that, Santosh was at Motorola Research Labs and Motorola Mobility, a Google company, as a Principal Staff Scientist in User Experience Research from 2011 to 2013. In his ten years of research and patenting new technologies at Motorola, Santosh led innovative user research and experience design projects for Smart Media Experiences, Connected Home, and Wellness Experiences. He first joined Motorola as a human factors engineer in in 2004.
